Put Rosario Dawson and Queen Latifah together on National Pie Day and the inevitable will happen. You got it, a pie throwing competition live on air during The Queen Latifah Show. But this was no ordinary pie-off. For every gooey dish destroyed, KISUA offered to donate $500 to Dawson’s social initiative, Studio One Eighty Nine. After many pies had flown - and the Hollywood actor had taken a few in the face herself - the grand total came to a whopping $30,000.
Studio One Eighty Night was co-created by Dawson and luxury marketing supremo Abrima Erwiah as a creative platform encouraging education, employment and empowerment for women in Africa and the diaspora. It acts as a talent incubator via a collaborative website, supporting agency, series of events and the Fashion Rising collection of artisan-made womenswear. The organisation also champions V Day’s One Billion Rising, the global campaign to end violence against women.
